Farewell Angelina

(„The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3”, 1991)
słowa i muzyka: Bob Dylan

Farewell Angelina the bells off the crown
Are being stolen by bandits, I must follow the sound
The triangle jingles and the trumpets play slow
Farewell Angelina, the sky's on fire, and I must go

There's no need for anger, there's no need for blame
There's nothing to prove, everything still the same
Just the table standing empty by the edge of the sea
Means farewell Angelina, the sky is falling, and I must leave

The jack and the queen had forsaken the courtyard
Fifty two gypsies now file passed the guards
In the space where the deuce and the ace runs ran wild
Farewell Angelina, the sky is falling, I'll see you in a while

See the roadside pirates sit cursing the sun
Shooting tin can with a sawed-off shot gun
And the neighbours they clap and they cheer with each blast
But farewell Angelina, the sky's changing colour, and I must leave fast

King-Kong lead louds on the roof top they dance
Valentino type tangos while they make upman's hands
Shut the eyes of the dead not to embarass anyone
But farewell Angelina, the sky's embarassed, and I must be gone

The machine guns are roaring and the puppet she wracks (rocks?)
And fling nails time bombs to the hands of the clocks
Call me any name you like I will never deny it
But farewell Angelina, the sky's erupting, I must go where it's quiet

(recorded on 01.13.1965, first release „The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3" - 1991)

„Farewell, Angelina”
was a 1965 album by Joan Baez. The album represented a further shift from the strictly traditional folk music with which Baez began her career in that, for the first time, she included electric backup in the form of Bruce Langhorne's electric guitar (which was nonetheless subtle). Additional musicians included Russ Savakus (bass) and Ralph Rinzler (mandolin). The album included four Bob Dylan tunes, including the title song and „A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall”, as well as a German reading of „Where Have All the Flowers Gone”.
Cover photo was taken by Richard Avedon.
The 2002 reissue of the album by Vanguard features three previously unreleased additional tracks from the Farewell, Angelina sessions: „One Too Many Mornings”, „Rock, Salt, And Nails”, and „The Water Is Wide”.
